International guests are welcome at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. For students and others who are interested in a short-term program, we offer the following Summer School programs.

Intensive Course Interpretation
The „Intensive Course of Interpretation“ comprises 100 hours of perfecting language skills (of minimum C1), classes of simultaneous and consecutive interpretation, seminars on note-taking, multilingual conferences with simultaneous interpreting in our state-of-the-art interpreting booths.
Lessons about linguistic/textual skills, seminars on interpretation-related subjects as well as mainly practical interpretation classes.
Excellent German language skills (C1-C2) are required.

Translation/Introduction to Interpretation
The course „Translation/Introduction to Interpreting“ comprises lessons about linguistic/textual skills, seminars on translation-related subjects as well as mainly practical translation and interpretation classes.
You need some proficiency in German for the Translation (at least B2).

Forster Summer School
The Forster Summer School 2020 will focus on Otto Hahn and his discovery of nuclear fission. In addition to a language course, the participants in the city of Frankfurt am Main will follow in Otto Hahn's footsteps, visit a nuclear reactor and have the opportunity to exchange ideas with high-ranking scientists.

International Summer School on Gene Regulation, Epigenetics and Genome Stability
The International Summer School on “Gene Regulation, Epigenetics and Genome Stability” (ISS) is a 6-week programme for outstanding international students. It is coordinated by the Institute of Molecular Biology Mainz (IMB). Participants acquire excellent theoretical and practical skills through lectures, courses and by working on a research project at the cutting-edge of science.

2020 / 09 / 10-15 International Summer School Singing Summer
This year’s summer school is concerned with the work of Ludwig van Beethoven. Renowned mentors such as Olaf Bär, Petra Müllejans, Christian Rohrbach, Thomas Hell and Benjamin Bergmann teach courses ranging from historical violin, historical performance practice, song, piano, and chamber music. As part of the Beethoven Academy, academy concerts and a competition concert will be held. In total, 10,000€ are available as prize money.
